On December 30, the Zhejiang Symphony Wind Orchestra’s 2024 New Year Concert was brilliantly performed at the Concert Hall of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music. The concert was hosted by the Zhejiang Provincial Musicians Association and the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, and was jointly organized by the Zhejiang Wind Music Society, Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestral Department of the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music. Professor Dai Zhonghui of the Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra was specially invited to conduct the concert. Performers from the Zhejiang Music Orchestra Department, Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra and Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra attended the music feast and jointly performed eight Chinese and foreign classic works including "Dream Set Sail".
The concert kicked off with Daisuke Shimizu's wind ensemble "Dream Sets Sail". The high-spirited theme alternated between brass and woodwinds. The timbre was full of variety without losing unity and balance, which perfectly interpreted the sound of the symphony wind orchestra. characteristics, and thus played a passionate chapter in the New Year. Then, in the first half, Jacob de Haan's "Love Concerto", Wang Harmony's "In That Distant Place" and Steven Reinecke's "Journey in the Big Wave" were performed. , while displaying different regional styles and musical melodies at home and abroad, it also gives full play to the sound orchestration effects of various wind instruments, forming a vast music scroll.
In the second half, Shostakovich's "Waltz No. 2" was first performed. Different from the orchestral ensemble version, the theme seemed to weaken its original lyrical qualities after subtracting the guidance of the strings. However, With the presentation of wind instruments such as saxophone and clarinet, the unique agility of dance music has not diminished at all, and the band ensemble that follows has further intensified the emotion.
Subsequently, the works "Colorful Danxia" by Yagisawa Yagisawa, "Blacksmith Polka" by Joseph Strauss and "Passionate Continent" by Taro Yikaze were displayed. The entire second half also interpreted different musical colors, highlighted the diversity of styles, and pushed the emotion of the concert to a high point in the ensemble of performers, while also looking back at the harvest and happiness. It is reported that the Zhejiang Symphony Wind Orchestra was initiated by the Wind Music Society of the Zhejiang Musicians Association.
