Nintendo: A total of 300,000 accounts have been illegally logged in through NNID

In April, we reported that Nintendo published the preliminary report on the investigation of "NS account large-scale abnormal login". The report showed that about 160,000 accounts were illegally logged in through NNID (Nintendo Network ID). However, with further investigation by Nintendo, another 140,000 accounts were found to have been illegally logged in through NNID.

According to Nintendo's official introduction, the passwords of the newly added 140,000 accounts have been reset, and their owners have been notified directly and new security measures have been added. At the same time, Nintendo also stated that less than 1% of these 300,000 accounts have actually conducted improper transactions. Currently, refund procedures for affected users in various countries are continuing, and refund processing for most users has ended.

It is worth mentioning that Nintendo Network ID is not the same as the current Nintendo Account used by Switch users. Nintendo Network ID is the previous generation Nintendo account system (Wii U, 3DS), and does not cross with Nintendo Account (can be interrelated) . Nintendo has currently closed the way to log in to a Nintendo account through NNID.
