The above changes originated in December 2016. Shanglou Village became the first cross-strait integrated community pilot village in Pingtan. Based on the Taiwanese model, through innovative creativity, the village’s logo, green belt, and leisure and entertainment venues are designed and transformed, giving Shanglou Village new connotations. Not only that, but also actively carried out voluntary services with the help of volunteer teams, organized activities such as "Send Warmth to Nine Nine", "Meal with the Elderly", and "Free Medical Examination for the Elderly". Shanglou Village also often organizes volunteers to "go out" to learn and exchange, and "bring in" good experience and talents to deepen the development of cross-strait social integration. In the past two years, four batches of outstanding volunteer representatives totaling more than 70 people have been sent to Taiwan to learn in-depth experience in community governance mechanisms, grassroots culture, industrial development, and the operation of community and volunteer organizations. At the same time, six groups of Taiwanese community volunteers and entrepreneurial youths came to Shanglou Village to participate in experiential exchanges. In April of this year, a Taiwanese cultural and creative team moved into Shanglou Village to transform the century-old old house in the village.
