The director Chen Musheng who directed films such as Anti-drugs and Dangerous City died of nasopharyngeal cancer on the morning of August 23 at the age of 58.

Chen Musheng was born in 1961. After graduating from middle school at the age of 20, he first joined Hong Kong Lai TV, and then moved to TVB as the assistant director of Du Qifeng . During this period, he filmed classic TV series such as "Flying Fox in Snow Mountain" and "Tale of the Dragon".

In the 1990s, Chen Musheng set foot in the film industry. His first film directed by the title was 1990's "Heavenly Love", which made "Hua Di" played by Andy Lau a classic role, but most of the scenes in the film were actually directed by Johnnie To.

After 1997, Chen Musheng devoted himself to the film industry, shooting a large number of police action films, including "Who Am I" (1998) co-directed with Jackie Chan , "New Police Story" (2004) starring Jackie Chan, Liu Qingyun, Gu Tianle , "Sweeping Drugs" (2013) starring Zhang Jiahui, "Dangerous City" (2016) starring Louis Koo and Wu Jing , etc.

Chen Musheng's movies are full of passion and manly. He has been nominated for the best director of the Hong Kong Film Awards for five times with "The Stormtroopers on the Streets", "Two Heroes", "New Police Story", "Stay on the Phone" and "Sweeping Drugs", but he has come home every time.

In recent years, Chen Musheng's output has not been high. His last work was "Rage" starring Donnie Yen and Nicholas Tse. The film was completed last year and was originally scheduled to be released this summer. According to Hong Kong media reports, Chen Musheng felt unwell during filming and was diagnosed with terminal nasopharyngeal carcinoma after examination. He is unable to complete the post-production work of the film and can only be handed over to others.

At the Hong Kong International Film and Television Fair in March last year, Chen Musheng and Nicholas Tse attended the Emperor Film Tour to promote "Rage". At that time, Chen Musheng looked in good spirits.

Nicholas Tse has always been Chen Musheng's favorite general. The two have worked together in films such as "Special Police New Human", "New Police Story", "New Shaolin Temple" and so on. Nicholas Tse himself regarded "Rage" as his return to the Hong Kong film scene, which shows his trust in Chen Musheng: "I have endured for several years and want to make a Hong Kong action film seriously."

Following "New Shaolin Temple", Chen Musheng arranged another villain for Nicholas Tse in "Rage", and he praised Nicholas Tse for being "particularly attractive as a villain." Nicholas Tse himself also enjoys the feeling of "being a bad guy": "A good guy is hard to do, but this villain has more room to play. It is a very three-dimensional role, not just playing around."
