The Ministry of Commerce held a regular press conference today (5th). Spokesperson Gao Feng introduced that the WTO Appellate Body for the Dispute Settlement Mechanism, due to continuous obstruction by individual members, has insufficient members. Paralyzed after December 10. China will continue to work together with most WTO members to promote the resolution of the Appellate Body crisis.
Gao Feng said that China firmly safeguards the multilateral trading system, attaches great importance to the issue of the Appellate Body, and has been actively promoting its resolution.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce Gao Feng: On the one hand, China and 115 members have submitted a proposal to initiate the selection of the Appellate Body and continue to promote the resolution of related issues. On the other hand, China has submitted proposals on the reform of the Appellate Body together with 40 members including the European Union, actively participated in the consultations, and strived to reach a consensus among WTO members. At the same time, we are studying related solutions, working hard to maintain the operation of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism, and defend the rules-based multilateral trading system.
