Chinese Drama Festival is a high-quality drama selection event directed by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Chinese Drama Theory and History Research Association, supported by the China Performance Industry Association, and hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Art Institute. Since its establishment in 2017, based on the standards of people's character, artistry, and professionalism, it has selected outstanding drama works that have market appeal, profound thinking, exquisite art, and excellent production every year, with the purpose of encouraging high-quality creation and spreading drama culture. , to build a Chinese-language drama market evaluation system and promote its long-term and orderly development. This year's festival received a total of 53 plays. After review, 50 plays were finally qualified to participate, of which 46 were from the mainland and 4 were from Hong Kong, China. After strict review by the nomination committee, a total of 19 works were shortlisted for nomination. Shanghai Dramatic Art Center benefited from the pioneering "producer-centered system" and "actor club" system. This year, a total of 6 works were shortlisted, including "Journey to the West", "Father", "Double Bass", "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains", "The Validity of Facts" and "Song of Everlasting Regret" (Shanghai dialect version) is the art institution with the most nominated plays in this ceremony.
In addition, "Magic Hour" became the most nominated play at this festival. This work was written by the famous Japanese playwright Yuki Mitani. It is a classic comedy with wide influence.
