China News Service, Vancouver, September 15th (Reporter Yu Ruidong) The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching, and the opening ceremony of the 2024 China Film Week will be held in Vancouver, Canada, on September 14th. Eight Chinese films of different themes, styles and types produced in recent years were screened during the five-day film week.
This Chinese Film Week is hosted by the Canadian Cultural and Creative Industries Foundation and supported by the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver and the China Film Archive. Many Chinese associations in the Greater Vancouver area, including the Vancouver Chinese Association, the Canadian Federation of Chinese Associations, and the Canadian Federation of Chinese Associations, participated in co-organizing the event.

Yang Shu, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver, said in his opening speech that with the rapid development of China’s economy and the continuous improvement of cultural confidence, the Chinese film industry has made significant progress and demonstrated unprecedented vitality and creativity. Currently, China is further deepening the reform of cultural systems and mechanisms, stimulating the vitality of cultural innovation, and promoting exchanges and mutual learning of Chinese culture on a global scale. I believe that this film week event will not only allow Canadian audiences to enter the world of Chinese films and gain an in-depth understanding of the diversity and uniqueness of Chinese culture, but will also further promote broader cultural interaction and exchanges between the two countries.
Sun Xianghui, director of the China Film Archive, said in a video speech that Vancouver is an important place for the spread of Chinese culture overseas. The eight outstanding films selected for this China Film Week are rich in themes and diverse styles and are representative works of recent Chinese films. It is hoped that this film week will become an annual event for Chinese films in Vancouver.
Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau sent a congratulatory letter to the film week. Representatives from Canadian political circles at the federal, provincial and municipal levels attended the event to congratulate and expressed their expectation to promote cultural exchanges and cooperation between Canada and China through the film week.
Qian Hua, head of the Canadian Cultural and Creative Industries Foundation, said that this film week aims to present a feast of multiculturalism and film art to Vancouver audiences and showcase the unique charm and cultural heritage of Chinese films.

Local audiences of different ethnic groups watched the opening film of this film week " Miracle·Stupid Child " on the opening day. Film Week screenings last from the 13th to the 17th. Participating films also include " Love Myth ", " Life Events ", " Lion Boy ", " I am a mountain ", "The Annual Meeting Can't Stop", " Passionate " and " Thelma and Louise " 》.
On the night of the opening day, another highlight of the film week was the concert "The Moon Is My Hometown - A Century-old Classic Song of Chinese Films". Many Chinese singers from Vancouver and other places in Canada and Europe joined hands with vocal music lovers to perform more than ten classic Chinese movie songs from different eras. The theater, which can accommodate nearly a thousand people, was almost empty. The episode "I Love You, China" from the movie "Overseas Child " pushed the atmosphere to a climax. (End)
