Shanghai Alley The cats in the house can curl up lazily on the sofa where the owner may be old, or they can shuttle in the alley, from the stove to the living room to the water bucket at the back door. They can even jump lightly and run away. After the sun goes down, there are still warm red tile roofs. The little body is lying on the ridge, looking at this bright and fast-changing city...
April 19th, alley cat shadow - the cat in the old house in Shanghai Mat·2024 Photography Exhibition is held in the dream salon on the 4th floor of Haimeng Yifang. The exhibition lasts for 2 months and is open to the public free of charge.
Xizi started to pick up his camera in 2007 and traveled through the streets and alleys, recording old buildings, alleys, streets in every corner of Shanghai, as well as countless details of the buildings and the sweet and bitter life of the people in them. What I didn't expect at the beginning of the shooting was that some of the "by-products" that were gradually accumulated and sorted out began to receive the attention and love of friends, such as the series "Cats in the Alley".
If you inadvertently turn a corner from the busy and noisy road, you may be able to pass through a street with words such as "1927" engraved on the building, and "XXXX mile" and "XXXX square" carved on the bluestone of the lintel below. In the Shikumen alley, rows of uniform Shikumen are lined up on both sides, and they are also crowded with all kinds of trivial sundries and vehicles of life. There are water buckets at the back doors of each house, and "ten thousand national flags" are dried in front of the doors. Here you can meet all kinds of people, hear all kinds of dialects, and all kinds of mixed smells. When you turn to a small alley, you encounter a cat that comes out of nowhere. It is also looking at you cautiously and curiously. When you are about to point the camera at it, you haven't had time yet. After adjusting the shutter and ISO, it jumped onto the windowsill and disappeared.
Xi Zi said that the cats living in it, living in a cramped space that may be dilapidated, still appear as fresh and unassuming as Xiaojiabiyu, and move cautiously and elegantly. "Perhaps, like the cats in the alley, I am a 'wanderer' in this city. I use my own little power to leave some images for these elves in this city, and find my own survival in this city that is constantly changing by the hour. Goals and spiritual solace..."
