Live Broadcast, April 14th According to Sky Sports reports, after the end of this round of League Two, Wrexham will be promoted to League One next season and have been promoted twice in a row for two consecutive seasons. Their two bosses, "Deadpool" actor Ryan Reynolds, said he was "crying with joy" and Rob McElhenney was "speechless" with excitement.
These two Hollywood actors joined this Welsh club in 2021. This week, their team defeated Forest Green Rangers 6-0 at home, locking in a seat in English League One next season in advance. After the game, home fans poured into the Racecourse Stadium to celebrate. After a 15-year absence from the professional league, Wrexham were promoted to League Two at the end of last season. Tens of thousands of people took part in a parade with open-top buses to celebrate the achievement.
Reynolds, 47, wrote on his personal Twitter: "If you told me a few years ago that I would cry tears of joy over a football match in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenry. Congratulations to Lake Sam and my co-chairs. Go the extra mile! This is the journey of our lives."
46-year-old McElhenry, director and actor of the American TV series "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," said he was watching the game in Los Angeles. He also tweeted, "Speechless," along with a heart emoji. During the game, he also tweeted to praise 29-year-old forward Paul Mullin, who scored twice in the first half to help Wrexham lead 4-0 at halftime. He wrote: "This is probably my favorite goal of his. Not the winning goal, not anything fancy, just toughness, fight and perseverance. Mullin knows that the people who come to the pitch are not spending their hard earned money. The wages, looking at the players giving 95%, they should see the players giving 100% and he gave them all this performance."
In the warm-up match against Manchester United in the United States last year. Lin was injured and McElhenry allowed him to recuperate at his home.
Since joining the club in February 2021, McElhenry and Reynolds, along with their critically acclaimed documentary Welcome to Wrexham, have thrust the club into the global spotlight. In 2022, they won the "Dragon Award" jointly awarded by the Welsh Government, the Welsh Football Association and Welsh TV station s4c for promoting Wales and the Welsh language.
Prior to this, Reynolds had met with British Prime Minister Sunak. Recently, Wrexham Club has also hosted visiting members of the royal family including the Prince of Wales and the King and Queen of England.
