"Spider's Web" tells the story of Clarissa, a young and beautiful diplomat's wife, who often fantasizes about going downstairs one day and finding a corpse in the library. Unfortunately, there is a body hidden in the library, and the suspicion points directly to her stepdaughter Pippa. After a while, the police also received an uninvited anonymous call. The most terrible thing is that her diplomat husband is about to arrive home with a mysterious foreign head of state to meet with the Foreign Minister. "Spider Web" premiered at the Nottingham Theater Royal in September 1954. After a national tour, it landed in London in December 1954 and performed 774 performances. The Mousetrap and Witness for the Prosecution were still being performed at the time, and Christie's theatrical career was at its peak. In 1955, "The Spider's Web" was adapted into a BBC TV series, starring Margaret Lockwood, the heroine of the West End stage play's premiere version. It was adapted into a movie in 1960, and twice adapted into TV series in 1982 and 2020. Christie named the heroine "Clarissa" after her late mother, which shows her affection for "Spider's Web". The play incorporates elements of comedy, with Christie also adding a deliberate imitation of a typical murder case as a self-deprecation.
The Chinese version of "Spider Web" produced by Shanghai Mousetrap Theater Studio was first performed at the end of 2012 and won praise from the audience for its unique comedy style and fascinating plot. The Chinese version has been re-released after 12 years. The creative team strives to give this classic comedy a new brilliance while retaining the essence of the original work.

"A few people who are in deep trouble, make fools of themselves for various reasons, and work very hard to rescue themselves from the predicament. This is the most valuable part of comedy. "Spider Web" is such a drama. Lin Yi said, "Christie puts her usual intrigues into absurd comedy situations. Complex family relationships, an unexpected corpse, and a hidden or apparent murder almost turn the lives of a group of people upside down. After everything was resolved, the heroine Clarissa said calmly, "We have just learned to deceive, and we have weaved such a chaotic web." I have to sigh, what a brave and happy group of people. If one person gives up, everything will not be happy.”
