On February 19, the open group men’s team sprint (free technique) competition of the 14th National Winter Games (hereinafter referred to as the “14th Winter”) was held in the Liangcheng Division of Ulanqab, hosted by Wuer The Chongqing team composed of Kaixi Kurbanjiang and Wang Qiang won the championship strongly. Men's team short distance (free technique) consists of two people from each team participating in the qualifying, semi-finals and finals. In the qualifying round, 24 skaters start off every 15 seconds and glide 1.4 kilometers. The time spent by two people on the same team is added together to form the qualifying round score. There is no elimination in the qualifying round. The semi-finals are divided into two groups based on the results of the qualifying round, with 6 teams in each group; the two players of each team alternate. After the No. 1 player completes the first lap, the No. 2 player takes over for the second lap. Player No. 1 will then skate for the third lap, and so on, until 6 laps of skating are completed. The top five from each group in the semi-finals advance to the finals.
In the final of the day, Wang Qiang and Kurbanjiang cooperated tacitly and easily won the championship with absolute advantage. The Shandong team and the Yunnan team won silver and bronze medals respectively.
